Review of poem ‘Public Body’ – By Mariela Cordero

I request the readers to read the poem by Mariela Cordero from the following link and then read my review:

PUBLIC BODY

How many words would suffice to sketch the dividing line transgressing which patriotism perverts into bigotry and racism? This poem has taken upon that daunting task, and subtly highlighted the fiber of genuine patriotism and sense of belonging to the motherland. In the anguish expressed on the plight of the nation there is no reference to the past ( or anything too ancient to be verifiable) or hyped heritage. The pulsating love for the nation only is felt by the reader and nowhere the vulgar agenda to inflame racism. This poet reminds of scores of scientists, thinkers, philosophers, writers, poets and sportspersons who were celebrated by humanity as a whole. They contributed to their motherland and presented her their talents and treasured achievements, which made their compatriots proud with awareness that these great are citizens of the world. Another distinction of this poem is it’s an artistic archive of contemporary history.
