Review of Melvin Dixon’s poem “Heartbeats”
Review of
Melvin Dixon’s poem “Heartbeats”
I request
readers to read the poem first from the link above and then only my review.
Thanks!
The
rigorous routine of urban life and the demands of a job have been brought out
in a different form and content in this poem. The expressions in the poem
subtly highlight there is no room for empathy in the modern life style. The
routine courtesies are the minimum and maximum a worker may find. If someone
looks for warmth, care and compassion he is living in Utopia. For workers and
even the top executives health condition and efforts to improve it are major
challenges and health breakdowns are non-events. Occupational hazards and cruel
environment are the rule and exceptions are rare in any country. Often, a poet
is also a worker and he goes through all hardships like any other person to
make both ends meet. But a poet voices his disagreement and his outcry for a
more humane world is powerful. This poem disturbs the reader and is thought
provoking.
