Review of contemporary American poetry by Craig Morgan Teicher

Teicher has reviewed poetry collections of Sally Wan Mao, Chelsea Rathburn, Illya Kaminsky, Jericho Brown, Jaswinder Bolina, Tina Chang, Paisley Rekdal, Carmen Giménez Smith, Jillian Weise and introduced collections of Sarah Gambito, C.D. Wright, Rigoberto González, Naomi Shihab Nye, Natalie Scenters-Zapico and Rachel Zucker. Teicher is a poet and he views “America's poets are stepping up, their faith in the capacity of language — to overcome barriers, find compromise, and speak the truth — is undaunted. Poets alone won't save us, but they are helping to keep words honest, multifaceted, and ultimately powerful. Words, used well, might save us.” The power of words is clearly felt when we read poetry. Poetry is the only genre where the writer poet hijacks you instantly to his world. Reviews of poetry are very important both for reader and the poet, because otherwise both the poem and the poet go unnoticed. Wonderful metaphors and powerful expressions make the reading of poetry an enriching experience. Poets fill the vacuum materialistic world holds for the sensitive creatures. The issues haunting USA highlighted by the poets, as Teicher reviews the collections, are found elsewhere, and probably everywhere. The wakeup call from the creative mind reaches the reader clearly when poetry is the sound board.
