Review of Poem ‘The weeping’ by Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca
Poem ‘The weeping’ by Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca
I request readers to read the poem from the above link first and then only my review. Thanks.
This is a very short poem highlighting the pains of the suffering masses. Lorca was part of a movement against dictatorship and was made director of Student Theatre Company in the Republic of Spain in 1930s. He was assassinated for his socialistic views by the right wing supporting monarchy. The day today life of a peasant is very short, but the problems faced by him are numerous. ‘A thousand violins fit in the palm of the hand’ is a very poetic metaphor symbolizing the problems. The powerful expression of the poet in few words shows his command over the genre. The poetic expressions make the reader ponder the pain and agony addressed by the poet.
